Dr. Taylor received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. She is the Founding Director of the Skin of Color Center at St. Luke's–Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York and is currently Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Taylor also maintains a private practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Taylor has contributed extensively to medical literature. She wrote the consumer book, Brown Skin: Dr. Taylor's Skin and Hair Prescription for Women of Color. She is also the author of several original research articles, abstracts, and book chapters, and has an extensive list of academic presentations, television appearances, magazine articles and quotations.

Dr. Taylor is a member of several national and local professional organizations and societies including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology, Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology, and the Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania.
