NIQIE Rolls Out Virtual Community of Practice Networking Site
The NIQIE conference provided the launch of our new Community of Practice in Continuous Performance Improvement professional networking site. The site has three Groups: Community of Practice for sharing resources and best practices; Research for collaborative research projects in performance improvement; and Education for NIQIE education activities and resources. The sites will provide blogs, links to resources, connections to colleagues and sharing of best practices. To get involved, register at the NIQIE website and click on the Community tab to join a group. Floyd Pennington, PhD is organizing the site and welcomes your involvement and suggestions. New Certificate in Continuous Performance Improvement Program Commences February 28, 2010 in Philadelphia
The Certificate in Continuous Performance Improvement Program sponsored by NIQIE and the Jefferson School of Population Health (JSPH) will officially launch with the first three modules presented in a four-hour live workshop format Sunday, February 28, 2010, 1-5 p.m. at the Philadelphia Marriott. The workshop is scheduled immediately prior to Jefferson’s annual Population Health and Disease Management Colloquium. Certificate sessions include: Introduction to Healthcare Quality Improvement (for those without formal QI training) presented by Davis Nash, MD, MBA, Dean, JSPH; Measurement and Assessment of Healthcare Professionals presented by Robert Galbraith, MD, MPH, Director of Innovation, NBME; and Introduction to Continuous Performance Improvement presented by Nancy Davis, PhD, NIQIE. Enrollment in the Certificate program is not required to participate in the workshop. For more information, click here. American Board of Medical Specialties Revises MOC Requirements
The ABMS put forth new guidelines for Maintenance of Certification as part of their on-going improvement and standardization of the MOC process. New requirements for peer review, patient feedback, CME and interventions for practice improvement are among the March 2009 revisions. Additionally, Mellie Villahermosa Pouwels has joined ABMS as MOC Program Director. More information at www.abms.org.
Association for Hospital Medical Education Addresses Practice Gaps
AHME Webinar, "Conducting a Needs Assessment and Identifying Practice Gaps: Getting it Right", was presented live Tuesday, November 24, 1:30-2:30 EST. NIQIE ED Appointed to National Priorities Partnership Work Group
Nancy Davis, PhD, NIQIE Executive Director has been appointed to the National Quality Forum’s National Priorities Partnership Safety Workgroup. Strategies for change in safety focus on peri-operative care, promoting uptake of measures and practices to minimize healthcare-associated infection and serious reportable events. NIQIE will promote the integration of Quality Improvement and Education to advance these strategies. For more information visit www.nationalprioritiespartnership.org.
Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (PCPI) Focusing on EHR
The PCPI held their annual meeting October 22-23 in Washington DC. The focus of the meeting was integrating performance measures with electronic health records (EHR). PCPI is refining measures and developing specifications for EHR to ensure appropriate measurement data can be collected from EHRs.
PCPI is also looking for partners to disseminate PCPI measures. If your organization is using them, get in touch with PCPI staff to share best practices and participate in evaluation activities. For more information and presentations from the meeting visit www.physicianconsortium.org.
Pharmacy Quality Alliance Tests Pharmacy Measures
The PQA held its annual meeting November 10 in Washington DC. Five demonstration projects have completed Phase 1 and reported findings at this meeting. Each group is testing PQA measures in the field. Pharmacy measures either overlap or complement measures in medicine which will allow for multidisciplinary implementation and improvement in healthcare delivery. American Dental Association Forms Quality Alliance
The ADA will convene the first Steering Committee meeting of its newly formed quality alliance in December. The immediate goals of the Alliance are to create measures to ensure oral health care quality for Medicaid patients. We’ll follow up as additional information is available.
NIQIE Partners with Educational Consultant
NIQIE has partnered with Melinda Steele, MEd, Confluence Educational Consulting, Inc. to lead its growing educational program. Melinda will lead planning and production of NIQIE’s annual conference, Certificate in Continuous Performance Improvement, and other programming in development for 2010. We welcome her expertise and leadership.
NIQIE Research Underway
The NIQIE Research workgroup commenced at the annual conference in September and is in the process of prioritizing our research agenda. Jack Kues, PhD is leading the group and welcomes anyone wishing to be involved in Performance Improvement research. Our first project is development of a PI CME registry which will provide a foundation for data collection, analysis and outcomes research.
