Scientific Congress Update: AHA 2007: New Developments in the Treatment of Acute Coronary Syndrome

Please review the following information and click "continue" at the bottom of this screen to enter the activity.

Release Date: January 30, 2008
Expiration Date:
January 29, 2009

Target Audience
This activity was developed to provide cardiologists, primary care physicians, emergency medicine physicians, and other healthcare professionals who care for and treat patients with ACS with the most up-to-date information being disseminated on therapeutic options for the management of ACS from patient stabilization following diagnosis to long-term prevention of repeat events.

Activity Overview
Acute coronary syndromes (ACS), a term used to describe conditions associated with myocardial ischemia, represents medical emergencies that frequently result in death within hours if not treated immediately and effectively. Current practice guidelines developed by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) outline treatment recommendations that emphasize the importance of pharmacologic therapy, principally anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy, to modify the process and adverse consequences of ACS. Research continues to refine acute and long-term management strategies of ACS as new pharmacologic agents and scientific evidence become available.

The American Heart Association's annual Scientific Sessions is the preeminent meeting for discussion of new and evolving research in the area of cardiovascular disease and is the focus of this online CME activity. This activity, designed for physicians uanble to attend the meeting, provides an opportunity to view new information presented during Scientific Sessions and examine its potential impact on clinical practice and patient outcomes, while reinforcing current guidelines and best practices. The role of existing and emerging antiplatelet agents in the treatment of ACS will be emphasized.
