Target Audience
The target audience is family physicians, primary care physicians, and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with chronic pain.

Statement of Need
Chronic pain affects approximately 86 million Americans, substantially reducing their quality of life. Unrelieved pain negatively affects quality of life:
   - Functional impairment and disability
   - Psychological distress (anxiety, depression)
   - Sleep interruption
The annual cost of pain, including medical expenses, lost income, and lost productivity, is an estimated $100 billion. The majority of pain is underreported and undertreated. The goal of pain management is to (reduce pain and disability) and to improve quality of life

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1) Assess and diagnosis of chronic pain
2) Distinguish between various types of pain
    - Acute vs. chronic
    - Nociceptive vs. neuropathic
3) Discuss non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic
    - Pain management
