Description

Counseling patients is of primary importance to their best outcomes and continued therapy so the quality of the interaction between the patient and healthcare professional is of vital importance. This program will provide a basic introduction to motivational interviewing and then describe key strategies that health care professionals can use during their patient consultations.

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, the pharmacist should be able to:

  1. Describe the spirit and key principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI).
  2. Observe and debrief demonstrations and videotape examples of MI.
  3. Discuss key strategies that can be employed by health care professionals during their patient consultation.
  4. Provide key take away statements that health care professionals can use during interactions with their patients.

Target Audience
Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and nurses.

CE Credit
To receive credit for this program, you must:

  • Review the full content of the program and reflect on its teaching.

  • Successfully complete the post-test with a minimum of 10 out of 13 correct answers.

  • You will have two (2) opportunities to successfully complete the program.

Your statement of credit will be issued immediately upon successful completion of the post-test and submission of the evaluation.

NCPAŽ is approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program will provide 1.0 contact hours (.1 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit under the number 207-000-07-020-H04.
