Please
read through the following information and click continue.
Release
Date: February 14, 2007
Expiration Date: February 14, 2010
Target
Audience
Pharmacists who care for patients needing pain management.
Statement
of Need
There are
anecdotal reports about the COX-2 inhibitors of improved efficacy over
the traditional NSAIDs. This program will help the practitioner identify
those patients with specific risk factors, in whom the risks would outweigh
potential benefits, and properly educate those for whom COX-2 use is still
an option.
Educational
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to improve
their patient care by being able to:
- Differentiate between
the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes and the effects of their inhibition by NSAIDs
and COX-2 drugs.
- Discuss the methods,
results, and conclusions drawn from the VIGOR and CLASS trials.
- Evaluate patient
risk factors to properly select COX-2 selective NSAID or traditional
NSAID for chronic pain.
- Use the FDA Subcommittees
recommendations for chronic use of NSAIDs for pain to evaluate appropriateness
of therapy.
