Description

Community pharmacy based research is becoming an increasingly important tool for pharmacists in evaluating the benefits of the pharmaceutical care/medication management services. Pharmaceutical care services (PCS) has been defined as the responsible provision of drug therapy for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patient's quality of life. PCS tasks include obtaining a medical history, performing physical assessments, evaluating laboratory data, reviewing current drug therapies for appropriateness, consulting with patients or physicians, and recommending changes as necessary.

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, the pharmacist should be better able to:

  1. Describe the ethical and regulatory aspects of conducting research studies.
  2. List the basic types of study designs that are applied to community pharmacy research.
  3. Understand the process for initiating and conducting a clinical research study.
  4. Understand the basic approach to determining the appropriate statistical analysis of data for a clinical research study.

Target Audience
The target market for this program is pharmacists.

To receive a certificate of completion that indicates your eligibility for continuing education credit, you must:

  • Review the content of the activity.
  • Successfully complete the post-test (70% or higher).
  • You will have two (2) opportunities to successfully complete the activity.

Your statement of credit will be issued immediately upon successful completion of the post-test and submission of the evaluation.

is assistant professor in the department of pharmacy practice, Campbell University School of Pharmacy, and clinical pharmacist with the adult medicine team at the downtown health plaza of Baptist Hospitals.
