Expiration Date: August 27, 2011
The
National Institute for Pharmacist Care Outcomes (NIPCO) is a leader in
educating community pharmacists how to develop new market niches in disease
management. This program will provide participants with 29 ACPE continuing
education contact hours and (2.9 CEUs) in pharmacy education. In order
to receive the course certificate, participants must successfully complete
all modules in the Online Home Study program, as well as attend and successfully
complete the Live portion of the Therapeutic Foot Care Certificate Program.
For a complete listing of NIPCO-accredited certificate programs, refer
to www.ncpanet.org.
Overview:
Completion
of all components of this NCPA/NIPCO-accredited Therapeutic Foot Care
Certificate Program will provide the participant with extensive education
and training to fit therapeutic shoes. Diabetes patients, in particular,
are prime candidates for therapeutic shoes and foot orthotics. Home study
program topics include: a review of the relevant anatomy and terminology
of the lower extremity; gait and biomechanics; overview of diabetes mellitus,
complications, and the importance of good foot care in diabetes patients;
identification and analysis of foot disorders and conditions commonly
encountered by pharmacists; and pedorthic management of these foot conditions.
Most insurers including Medicare provide coverage for therapeutic shoes,
but providers must first complete comprehensive education and training.
Completion of the NCPA/NIPCO-accredited Therapeutic Foot Care Certificate
Program (all six [6] modules) and the online final exam, as well as attending
and successfully completing the Live portion will provide the participant
with a NIPCO-accredited Certificate in Therapeutic Foot Care. This course
can be applied toward the attainment of the NIPCO Pharmacist Care Diplomate
credential, and the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics,
& Pedorthics (ABCOP) (www.abcop.org) certified fitter of therapeutic
shoes credential or the Board of Orthotists/Prosthetists Certification
(BOC) (www.bocusa.org) footwear specialist credential.
Disclaimer:
Certain states with O&P or
pedorthic requirements mandate that practitioners meet that state's requirements
in order to dispense therapeutic footwear. Since each of these states
has different requirements and definitions, pedorthic practitioners in
those states should consult their specific state government. Successful
completion of the NIPCO-accredited Therapeutic Foot Care Certificate program
does not guarantee or imply that you will be able to dispense footwear
in your state.

pharmacy education and certificate programs. This program consists of
