Statement of Need
Last year (2008) was an exciting and prolific year for the development of new chemical entities, as well as the production and marketing of new drug product formulations. A wealth of new or improved biologics, vaccines, and innovative dosage forms also garnered approval in 2008. The July continuing education article provides an overview of the new drug entities or new drug products of 2008.

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, the pharmacist should be able to:

  1. Recognize the indications, routes of administration, and notable pharmacokinetics of the newly approved/marketed drugs of 2008.
  2. dentify significant drug interaction potential and contraindications of the new drugs.
  3. Recognize potential advantages or disadvantages relative to existing drug products used for the same indication.
  4. Discriminate between new chemical entities, new dosage forms of existing drugs, and new formulations of biologic products.
  5. Apply the mechanism of action of each drug product to the indication for which it is used.

To receive a certificate of completion that indicates your eligibility for continuing education credit, you must:

  • Review the content of the activity.
  • Successfully complete the post-test (70% or higher).
  • You will have two (2) opportunities to successfully complete the activity.

Your statement of credit will be issued immediately upon successful completion of the post-test and submission of the evaluation.
