Naomi D. Neufeld, MD, FACE, is the President of Neufeld Medical Group, founded in 1996, a private practice limited to pediatric endocrinology in Los Angeles. Her practice focuses on the problems of growth, obesity, diabetes, and the hormonal problems that can affect children and youth from birth to 21 years.
Dr. Neufeld earned her undergraduate and Master of Medical Sciences degrees from Brown University. She completed her medical degree at Tufts University and did her pediatric internship and residency at Rhode Island Hospital. She completed her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at UCLA Center for Health Sciences, where she was the recipient of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) postdoctoral fellowship grant. Dr. Neufeld is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology by the American Board of Pediatrics.
She received a Clinical Investigator Award, as well as several RO-1 grants from NIH, including "Childhood Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes in Hispanic Youth" from NIDDKD in 1994. She has written several book chapters and more than 30 scientific papers on the effects of diabetes on fetal development and subsequent obesity. She is currently a professor of pediatrics at UCLA, and has been on the attending staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since 1978, where she served as Director of Pediatric Endocrinology.
Dr. Neufeld is author of the book KidShape®–A Practical Prescription for Raising Healthy, Fit Kids, published by Rutledge Hill Press. She recently published her second book, Café KidShape–a cookbook for children and their families.
Dr. Neufeld is the founder and president of KidShape®, Inc., a family-based pediatric weight management program that has been in continuous operation since 1986 and now operates sites in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange Counties. KidShape® is a Coalition Partner of Shape-Up America, as well as a member of the California Nutrition Network. KidShape® has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek magazine, the Home Show, and the Oprah Winfrey Show. Dr. Neufeld has been a charter member of AACE since 1992. She has served on the Board of Directors of AACE since 2001, and on the Board of the American College of Endocrinology since 2003. She is the Chairman of the Pediatric Liaison Committee of AACE.
