Dr Saul Silver was born and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey. He attended high school in New York City at the Yeshiva University. His undergraduate years were spent at Lehigh University where he majored in "Pre-medical Science" and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. From 1976 to 1980, Dr Silver attended Hahneman Medical College today called Drexel University where he achieved honors in Internal Medicine and General Surgery.

Residency years took Dr Silver back to New York City where he was intern, resident, and then Chief Resident of the Internal Medicine program at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr Michael Bruno wrote to Dr Silver in December 1983 the following passage:

"As a director of medicine for some 28 years and as a person acting in that capacity at Bellevue for four years before that, I believe I have had a lot of experience dealing with Chief Residents. I will tell you in the clearest possible terms that you are one of the finest Chief Residents that I have ever seen in my entire career."

After finishing up Internal Medicine and his Chief Residency, Dr Silver went to Houston Texas where he trained for three years at the Methodist Hospital in the now famous Texas Medical Center. Dr Silver rounded on the cardiac service with Dr Michael Debakey and participated in some of the landmark clinical trials that shape the practice of cardiology to this very day.

When Fellowship ended, Dr Silver chose Pittsburgh for his home. He joined a practice in the local area and brought his brand of high quality interventional cardiology to the area. Since being here, Dr Silver has performed over 12,000 cardiac catheterizations and interventional procedures. He has achieved board certification not only in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, but also in Interventional Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, Critical Care Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and EKG reading.

In 2006 Dr Silver pursued his lifelong dream to build a special kind of private practice, one centered not only on medical excellence, but one devoted to the personal care of the individual patient. Dr Silver treats everyone of his patients as he would his own parents.
He expects that same high standard of his staff as well.

Dr Silver is on Staff at UPMC Shadyside, UPMC Braddock and Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at Jefferson Hospital and has served as Chief of Cardiac services at Jefferson Hospital since 2003. Dr Silver is also Chief of Cardiac Services at UPMC Braddock.
