Target
Audience: Pharmacists, nurses, and dietitians who
are involved with patient education and counseling
Goal:
To increase awareness of the role of blood glucose
monitoring in the management of diabetes and to provide information
that will improve the prognosis of patients with diabetes
Educational
Objectives: Upon completion of this activity participants
should be able to:
- Discuss
the prevalence of diabetes and risk of complications
- Describe
the history of targeted glucose testing
- Explore
the benefits of targeted glycemic control
- State
the importance of empowering patients to manage diabetes
- Identify
and discuss currently marketed glucose monitors and identify
key features of different glucose monitors
- Discuss
the importance of pattern management

The American Association of Diabetes Educators and Novo
Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc. are accredited by the American
Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) as providers of continuing
pharmaceutical education. This program provides for 1.25 contact
hours (.125 CEUs). ACPE Universal Program Number 069-360-02-871-H04

American Association of Diabetes Educators (AM001) is a
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider
with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) from June
1, 2003 to May 31, 2006. Registered dietitians (RD) and dietetic
technicians, registered (DTR) will receive 1.0 Continuing Professional
Education Units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing
Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute

following program is a presentation by Jerry Meece. Mr.
Meece is a pharmacist and Certified Diabetes Educator who is
owner and Director of Clinical Services of Plaza Pharmacy And
Wellness Center in Gainesville, Texas. Mr. Meece has written
many articles on diabetes care and insulin use in the patient
with diabetes. He has also spoken across the country on the
subject of diabetes and disease state management in the pharmacy
setting. Mr. Meece currently serves on the Board of Directors
for the American Association of Diabetes Educators and is also
chairman of the Public Affairs Committee for that organization.
