CME Information

Release Date: February 16, 2004
Expiration Date: February 16, 2007

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, nurses and pharmacists.

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Discuss the appropriate indications and contraindications of intravenous vasodilator therapy.
  • Describe a "critically ill" ADHF patient.
  • List the appropriate monitoring parameters for the ADHF patient.
  • Describe treatments that improve measurable outcomes in the emergency department.
  • Describe how early goal-directed therapy influences the course of hospitalization.
  • Describe the patient characteristics that are risk factors for re-admission and increasing cost.

Program Overview
Today, there are nearly five million Americans living with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Heart Failure is the single most expensive diagnosis in the Medicare patient population and is the cause of more hospitalizations in the elderly than any other condition. Accurate diagnosis and expeditious, goal-directed treatment of Acute Decompensated Heart Failure (ADHF) is critical for optimal outcomes.
