Dr. Gordon J. Vanscoy is Chief Executive at University Pharmacotherapy Associates, LLC. He is Assistant Dean for Managed Care and Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. Historically, Dr. Vanscoy was the Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at Stadtlanders / CVS Procare. Prior to that as Vice-chair of the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics, he founded the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Drug Information and Pharmacoepidemiology Center. He was also an active member of the University Biomedical Institutional Review Board. In addition, he developed Anticoagulation Clinic Services and obtained prescribing privileges at the Pittsburgh Veterans Affairs Health System.
His primary scholarly interest involves assessing the integrated value of medications and managed care in high-risk disease states. Dr. Vanscoy received his Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy and Masters of Business Administration degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University. He has completed an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency and a faculty fellowship in geriatrics. Dr. Vanscoy is a Certified Anticoagulation Care Provider.
Dr. Vanscoy has published a number of scientific papers, received research and educational awards and grants (e.g., NIH, etc.), provided numerous invited lectures, and has served on many national and international committees. He is on the editorial board of several scientific journals including section editor of the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis. Dr. Vanscoy served as a member of the Information Sciences Expert Advisory Panel for the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) and, as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Research (ISPOR). He is currently Chairman of the Board at University Pharmacotherapy Associates, LLC, as well as the founder and member of National Credentialing Board for Anticoagulation Care Providers.
