Challenging VTE Standards: Heparin, LMWHs, and Evolving Agents

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Differentiate the pharmacologic characteristics, clinical evidence, and dosing of low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWHs), unfractionated heparin (UFH), and fondaparinux in the management of venous thromboembolic (VTE) disease.
• Review consensus antithrombotic guidelines for the prevention and treatment of VTE.
• Discuss evolving antithrombotic issues (e.g. dosing, bridge therapy) and ongoing VTE research.
